NatGeo photo Manatees by @PaulNicklen

NatGeo photo Manatees by @PaulNicklen

NatGeo photograph by @PaulNicklen // Manatees typically breed once every two years; generally only a single calf is born. However, I felt incredibly fortunate to photograph this rare moment where a mother nurses her twins at Blue Spring, Florida. Gestation lasts about 12 months and a further 12 to 18 months is required to wean the calf or in this case, calves. Twins occur less than two percent of the time. #Followme on @PaulNicklen to see courting manatees.
