PUSH BUTTON • APPLAUD JELLYFISH

▢ JELLY  ( box jelly /bäks/ /ˈjelē/ ) https://www.instagram.com/p/8G0oodLTpJ/?taken-by=heartimals

Box jellyfish (class Cubozoa) are cnidarian invertebrates distinguished by their cube-shaped medusae. Jellyfish, or jellies, are found in every ocean. The sea wasp, (cubomedusae) a boxbjellyfish found in Australian waters, can kill an adult human within a few minutes. A thin skin covering such as pantyhose was found to be sufficient protection. The pantyhose were formerly thought to work because of the length of the nematocysts, but it is now known to be related to the way the stinger cells work. The stinging cells on a box jellyfish’s tentacles are not triggered by pressure, instead they are triggered by the chemicals found on skin, pantyhose hinders the detection of the chemicals preventing the nematocysts from firing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box_jellyfishhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellyfish
